Earned a Ph.D. mechanical engineering from California Institute of Technology.

Became Instructor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley.

1949

Became Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Division.

1953

Director of Engineering Research Institute at the University of Michigan.

1958

Named President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

1971

Retired from the presidency.

1976

Richard Gilman Folsom Library dedicated in his honor.

1996

Died March 11, 1996.
