What can I get? - Libraries generally will lend materials from their circulating collections or provide copies of journal articles or conference papers. Libraries do not lend reference books, dissertations, archival materials, or journals. Videos, sound recordings and new books also are not available for interlibrary loan.

How Long Does It Take? - Many books, technical reports, copies of journal articles and conference papers as well as govenment documents can be obtained locally with 5 - 10 days. Materials requested from libraries outside of the Capital District typically are supplied within 2 -3 weeks. Researchers should allow for 6 -8 week delivery of books requested after mid-November because of holiday mail volume.

What are the "Rules of Use?" - Researchers using the materials borrowed from other libraries must comply with the conditions of use set by the lending institution. Researchers obtaining copies of journal articles or other copyrighted material must also compy with US Copyright Law and and associated "FAIR USE" guidelines. For details about borrowing policies, select Use Policies. Select Copyright Law for detailed information about using copyright protected information.
