Setting Up Your Browser for Remote Access to Rensselaer Resources

Important : Due to new advances in web browsing technology implemented by the providers of our electronic resources, we can no longer provide technical support for older versions of browsers such as Netscape and Internet Explorer. Although you may continue to use these older versions, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to access all of our online materials or to use them accurately.

Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 5.x

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x for the Macintosh cannot be configured to use the proxy server. Use Netscape Navigator 6.23 or higher.

AOL Users: Please NOTE

  • The AOL browser (included in all AOL versions) does not support the required Proxy Service configuration.

  • AOL Users should use either Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 5 (or higher) or Netscape Navigator version 6.1 (or higher).

  • This will not always solve every problem. If you installed AOL services after you installed Internet Explorer (or bought your computer), frequently AOL will commandeer obscure communications settings in Internet Explorer, and prevent you from using the library's proxy services. If this is the case, use Netscape Navigator.

  • To install Netscape Navigator for AOL:
  • Keyword: netscape
  • click on Click Here!
  • click on Download Netscape
  • Follow the prompts to load and install Netscape Navigator
  • Follow the steps listed above for setting up Netscape.
